Privacy Policy

Check It is designed with a strong commitment to user privacy. We believe that your search queries, messages, and personal information should remain private. This Privacy Policy details how we handle data when you use the Check It Progressive Web App (PWA).

1. Information We Do Not Collect

We do not require user account registration to use the app. We do not collect, harvest, or store any personal identifier information such as names, email addresses, phone numbers, location data, or device identifiers.

2. Live Scanning & AI Verification

When you perform an information verification check (including URLs, text messages, email text headers/bodies, phone numbers, or text content extracted from images), the app shares this data with a third-party AI service to analyze it for security threat indicators, phishing hooks, and misinformation. Before any data is shared, the app discloses this detail and requests your explicit consent.

• What Data is Shared: The specific query data you enter (such as URLs, message text, email senders, subject lines, bodies, phone numbers, or OCR-extracted text from screenshot images) is sent. No personal accounts, user identity profiles, credentials, or device IDs are ever shared.
• Who Data is Shared With: The data is transmitted over secure SSL/TLS HTTPS connections to our serverless proxy and then securely routed to the official Google Gemini API (provided by Google LLC).
• Data Protection & Retention: Your query contents are processed 100% transiently in memory to perform the safety/credibility check. Google Gemini API confirms that user data processed through their developer endpoints is not used for model training or retained permanently. Neither our proxy nor Google stores, logs, or saves your scanned query contents.

3. Camera Access and Image Processing

When using the "Image Check" tab:

• Camera access is requested solely to let you scan physical letters, documents, or screen content. The camera feed is processed locally in your browser.
• OCR (Optical Character Recognition) is performed locally using the Tesseract.js library inside your device's browser. Your image files are not sent to any remote server for text extraction.
• Only the extracted text content or the selected screenshot base64 format is sent securely to the Google Gemini API for scam evaluation, subject to your prior consent.

4. Local App History Logs

Your scan history logs are stored 100% locally on your own device using the browser's IndexedDB database. This data remains on your device and is never uploaded or shared. You can completely wipe all history records at any time by navigating to the Logs tab and clicking Delete All Log Records.

5. Geolocation Data & Local Radar

When using the "Lookup / Local Radar" tab, the application requests access to your device's geographical location coordinates. If permitted:

• Your coordinates (latitude and longitude) are sent securely to the open-source OpenStreetMap Nominatim reverse-geocoding API to resolve your current city and region name.
• The coordinates and resolved city name are processed transiently in memory to retrieve relevant regional scam alerts. They are never sent to our servers or stored in any persistent database.

6. Domain WHOIS Lookups

When using the domain lookups search tool, the queried domain name is sent to a third-party WHOIS API endpoint (`who-dat.as93.net`) to retrieve registry details (creation date, expiration date, and registrar information). No user identification, device details, or IP info is sent or shared during this lookup.

7. Security

All communication between the application client and our serverless APIs uses HTTPS Transport Layer Security (TLS). This ensures that your query checks are encrypted in transit and cannot be intercepted by third parties.

8. Usage Tracking (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to collect anonymous aggregate usage statistics to help us analyze and improve the application's user experience. Google Analytics collects information such as app navigation paths and feature clicks. This information is completely anonymized and is never matched with any personally identifiable information.
